Saturday I wanted to go to Grand Junction to by frames etc. My friend told me that Woods Lake was pretty, so I thought I would make a scenic detour there. Turns out that this detour took all day and was incredible.
Started out in Telluride and left town Highway 145 as I normally do. Ad Vanadium, I turned left up road 622 toward Silver Pick Basin. I then turned right toward Wilsons Mesa and did the Wilsons Mesa Circle. From there I went up road 618 towards Woods Lake. It is a fair bit past peak aspen viewing but Woods Lake is very pretty. From there I took FS 618. A lot of my favorite photos came from that road. This drops down into Lone Cone and I took FS 611, then FS 610 toward Norwood. I can't wait until next year to come back during peak.
The second part of the trip was highway 145 and highway 141 thru towns like Norwood, Redvale, Naturita, Uravan, Gateway and Whitewater. It starts out following the San Miquel river, then joins the Dolores river where it flows thru inspiring canyons. At Gateway, I head back east up the Unaweep cayon on highway 141 where it drops down into Whitewater and Grand Junction.
After spending way too much money at Michaels in Grand Junction I headed back south. Stopped in Montrose to pick up some groceries and headed home.
Make sure you check out the incredible red aspens they where something else.
