Thanks to Patrick. I decided to hike the Jud this month.

After yesterdays storm, I was doubting if I would get to hike the Jud Wiebe trail this month. Well it warmed up, and one comment from my blog

patrick said...
on this months hike of the jud...would u take some pictures of ajax and ingram/ east end of the valley?

So, I got myself motivated and I just did it.

Thanks Patrick, it turned out to be one of my best hikes of Jud!!!

Anyway, I am first going to just post pictures of Ajax Peak, so you can see the changes in color of this majestic mountain.

A couple other photos from the hike:

Some one was a bit hungry. (not me)

I was the only person (I saw some deer) that had hiked the Jud this day. No tracks.

Interesting mounds of snow and grass.

Just watching the sunset. Nice...

After the sunset, it "usually" gets dark. I tell myself everytime to bring my headlamp, but I usually just say I won't be that long. Well, the lighting was incredible at the top of the Jud, and I did want to head down just yet.
Anyway, the the snow was a bit deep back here in the woods. The top rail of this bridge is about 3 feet.

Most of the way down I noticed the sliver of a moon

I got to the bottom around 7:20 pm and it was quite dark.

Wow, one of my best hikes of the Jud todate.

Spring Snow Storm In Telluride

I put some ski clothes over my pajamas this morning and went out and took some photos of the results from the spring snow storm. This is just a quick post, because I need to prepare for a work project, so more to come....

Dessert: Moguls of Chocolate and Peak of Red

I had a wild hair to bake tonight. I call this dessert creation the "Moguls of Chocolate and a Peak of Red." Good thing I ski a lot, 24 cup cakes is a lot of "energy".

Watching the Alpine Glow from the Hot tub.

Some good spring skiing this weekend. Can you believe that next week is the last week here at Telluride Ski Area! Oh well, not the best of ski years, but March made up for it.

Anyway, I took this while soaking in the beautiful alpine glow on Ajax mountain from the hot tub.

Blue Bird Day

Oh what a blue bird day (ie cloudless). Over lunch I went to the top of the mountain. It never gets old....

Yip, Yip, Howl and the sounds that followed.

Crazy night....
I first pre-party thinking there was a concert at the Conference Center.

I took the gondola to Mountain Village. On the way I talked to my mom about their trip to Hawaii.

After stopping by the ATM, I walked into the Conference Center.

They asked my "Can I help you", I thought there was a concert tonight. Nope, it is tomorrow night. oops!!!!

So I went back into town via the gondola. In town I visited my friends where they worked.

I finally made my way back home, and I was checking my email when I heard Yip, Yip, Howl outside. This immediately got my attention because it did not sound like a normal dog. I went outside on the deck and listen to several more Yip, Yip, Howls.

Wow, nothing like a coyote to bring you back to nature. So very cool!!!

After peering into the darkness, my call back to nature stopped. hmmmm....

I then noticed all the other sounds like the San Miguel river and the crispness of the night.

Oh it is so easy to get caught up in the booze wildlife, and forget to stop and to listen to our roots.

With that being said, I still look forward to tomorrow when the concert is actually going to happen. :)

but never forget to stop an listen, you may be surprised at what you hear!!!!

Redball Express

The following was taken fromTelluride Ski Resort Event Calendar
Red Ball Express

Benefiting the Telluride Rotary and local youth organizations this fundraiser is a must see family event. Tickets can be purchased for $5.00 from a local youth or in the Heritage Plaza leading up to the event.

Over 100 red excersise balls will be rolled down the NASTAR race hill at 3:45 p.m. The first three balls to the bottom could win you $5,000!

Quite the sight to see!!!!

St. Patricks Day (and a night that was fuzzy)

Last Friday for St. Patricks Day, I hung out with friends at the West End. I needed use up my $50 gift certificate. That night got a little out of hand. I lost my wallet and camera in the bar. Hmmmm. One to many green margs. I retrieved them the next day on Saturday. I just walked up to the bar, and the bartender recongizes me and just shakes his head, he then hands me my wallet and camera, and I nodded thanks and walked out.

No words were spoken, because none were needed. :)

Below is the group of people at our table.

Baseball on Skis. Ski Patrol vs (Ski Instructors and Ski Lift Operators)

Every St. Patricks day, the annual baseball on skis is held at the bottom of Coonskin Lift. Quite the event to watch. Crazy Telluride people!

YX Factor

Tonight I went to go see:

"The Telluride Historical Museum presents a screening of

"The YX Factor,"
a documentary exploring the 1970s impact on Telluride through oral history interviews and pictures. Screening & Panel Discussion by locals featured in the film to follow at the Sheridan Opera House."
This was quoted from Telluride Ticket.

I have rented this film before the library, and I loved it. However, it was GREAT being in the same audience as the people in this film (and hearing banter like hey there is so and so).

I love Telluride!!!!

Adult Coed Broomball League Championship game

Broomball is huge in Telluride. Last year I played on a team, but this year I did not and my knees and elbows are thanking me big time.

It seems like every year it is the Artichokes and the Cleaners in the championship.

The first goal happened with in seconds of the starting whistle.

The second goal occurred 2 minutes later, and it was looking like the Chokes would run away with it. Look how similar the first and second goals were.

In broomball, unlike hockey, it takes time to stop your forward momentum.

The Cleaners where looking for anyway to slow down the Chokes.

Here was the third goal by the chokes, but.....

... the stripes ruled that too many players on the ice, and the goal was called back. So it was still 2-0.

The Chokes were in the Cleaners Goalie's face all night.

Perfect position, and perfect whiff (all air). Lucky for the Cleaners it was not another score by the Chokes.

But in the end, it was yet another championship victory by the Artichokes.

I am lucky if I can remember my own cell phone number, but this kid....

I am lucky if I can remember my own cell phone number, but this kid (senior in high school) recited 8,784 digits of Pi. Wow. And this only make him 12th in the world.

I was going to blame it on Pabst, but no....

Here is the article.

Powerline and helmet recognized

Yesterday, I was skiing Powerline (shown in picture) when down below I recognized the helmet of Dureen. I ended up skiing with that group the rest of the day and had a blast. I might not have ski as long that day, but the skiing that we did was awesome. 40" in the last seven days made skiing tons of fun.

Gold Hill

Yesterday my goal was to ski every run on Gold Hill.
Runs skied in order: Happy Thoughts, Electra, Dynamo, Millions, Little Rose, Andy's Gold, Buzz's Glade

Not sure what today's goal will be. I am a little wrecked from all the powder skiing.

Friday, March 10, 2006

Mother Nature can be very humbling.

Over lunch I decided to take a couple runs in all the fresh snow. The picture shown is going up Chair 9 in relatively "peaceful" conditions.

For what ever reason, I decided to go to the top of the Ski Area (Gold Hill).

Even with all the new snow, it was completely bare at the wind blown top. The wind was blowing so hard and snowing so hard, it was a complete WHITEOUT. I literally just followed the ski boundary rope for guidance. I was going to take a picture, but it was not very nice up there, and I just wanted to get off.

I think it freaked out some poor tourists. They were just walking with their hands out in front thinking they would hit something.

Very humbling mother nature can be.

[I just now looked at the WINTER STORM WARNING,
yep I would agree with that]

PERIODS OF SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON. BY LATE TODAY...TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 15 INCHES ARE EXPECTED. IN ADDITION...SOUTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH WILL PRODUCE AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

POWDER WEEK (much anticipated hottub)

As expected we are getting some snow in March.

20" in last 48 hours and it just keeps on coming.

It should be an exhausting ski weekend.

Hello hottub.

POWDER DAY 10" on Deck

I had a friend come into town, so I had planned on taking this day off as a vacation day. Wow, what timing!!!!
